China-Singapore Classrooms Connect, Forging New Cultural Bonds

  March 17-30, 2025  WTU hosted 78 faculty and students from Singapores Ngee Ann Polytechnic in two batches, launching a new phase of the China-Singapore Cultural Exchange and Joint Teaching Program.Since the collaboration's inception in 2008, the program has fostered 16 editions of academic exchanges, directly benefiting over 1,200 students from both nations. A pivotal milestone came in 2021 when it was selected for the China-ASEAN Top 100 Vocational Colleges Partnership Initiative, recognized for its innovative dual-certificate talent development model. Building on this momentum, WTU secured a spot in the inaugural China-ASEAN Thousand Colleges Partnership Program in 2024, positioning it among Asias vanguard of transnational vocational education hubs.

  In terms of cultural experiences, the school has organized a variety of cultural workshops.

  Professor Zhang Wanxi from the School of Foreign Languages and International Trade gave a lecture on An Overview of China's National Conditions, which deeply interpreted Chinese culture from a macro perspective. This enabled teachers and students from Singapore to comprehensively understand China's historical evolution, cultural inheritance, and social status quo.

  The cultural visits were equally wonderful. Teachers and students from Singapore went to the Yellow Crane Tower, overlooking the magnificent view of the Yangtze River. They felt the weight of history amidst ancient poems and rhymes. Visiting the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Museum of the 1911 Revolution, they explored the context of historical culture, experiencing the long - standing Jingchu culture and the dare to be the first spirit of revolutionary culture. Each cultural landmark became an important window for them to understand China, constantly deepening their understanding and love for Chinese culture.

  In terms of teaching practice, Wuhan Polytechnic University carefully planned practical activities with the theme of sustainable development, taking into account the professional backgrounds of the visiting teachers and students. The teachers and students visited the Wuhan Urban Planning Exhibition Hall together to gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts of urban planning and development. In addition, the teachers and students also visited well-known enterprises such as Wuhan Oriclean Technology and JI Hotel, and personally experienced Baidu's Apollo Go unmanned driving technology.

  As the exchange activities were drawing to a close, Wuhan Polytechnic University held a completion ceremony for the visiting teachers and students from Singapore. At the ceremony, Yang Xudong, Vice President of WTU, reviewed the years of cooperation between the two universities and congratulated the students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore of the 21st and 22nd batches on successfully completing their exchange studies. He said, Over the past 17 years, we have jointly witnessed the whole process of the 'China-Singapore Humanities Exchange and Joint Teaching Project' from its inception to its growth. Every exchange activity embodies the enthusiasm and dedication of the teachers and students of the two universities. We look forward to further deepening the cooperation with Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, expanding the scope of cooperation in various aspects such as academic research, curriculum development, and student exchange, and jointly cultivating outstanding talented individuals with an international perspective and innovative capabilities.

  The representatives of the teachers and students from Singapore also took turns to speak, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the meticulous arrangements and warm hospitality of the university. They said that during their exchange studies at WTU, they had not only acquired knowledge and broadened their horizons but also made many Chinese friends and established deep friendships. Everyone participated in cultural activities together and discussed academic issues, experiencing different ways of thinking and positive attitudes towards life. They would keep this experience in their hearts and look forward to more Singaporean students participating in such exchanges.

  Subsequently, President Yang Xudong presented completion certificates to the students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. Amidst warm applause, the teachers and students took group photos, all with beaming smiles, fully demonstrating the profound friendship between the two universities.

  During the program performance segment of the completion ceremony, students from the Chinese and Singaporean universities jointly took the stage. The dance performed by the students of WTU showcased the charm of traditional Chinese culture, while the songs sung by the students of Ngee Ann Polytechnic were full of exotic flavors. There was frequent interaction between the stage and the audience, with applause and cheers resounding one after another. The students of the two universities got along very harmoniously. The ceremony successfully came to an end amidst laughter and cheers, marking a perfect conclusion to this exchange activity and opening a brand-new chapter for the future cooperation between the two universities.

  The China-Singapore Humanities Exchange and Joint Teaching Project has been continuously deepening and expanding its connotations through successive exchange activities. It not only provides a platform for the teachers and students of the two universities to learn from and communicate with each other, promoting cultural integration and understanding, but also accumulates valuable experience for China and Singapore in aspects such as the sharing of educational resources and the innovation of talent cultivation models, setting a model for international cooperation in vocational education. WTU will continue to adhere to the concept of internationalized education, further strengthen international education exchanges and cooperation, constantly enrich the content of exchanges and innovate cooperation forms, and contribute to improving the university's international education level and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
